Breweries, especially small breweries, are getting more popular by demand. When looking at opening a brewery not only do you have to worry about your capital, product, location, and staff, you also must worry about protecting it. There are a couple of different insurance policies that come into play to protect you from liability, to protect your staff and customers, and to protect your location and product. Let’s break down on what insurance policies that you may need for a brewery.

Workers’ Compensation

Workers’ compensation is a must have and is required by law. Policies such as workers’ compensation, protects your staff for any work related injuries, on the job auto accidents, or work-related illnesses.

Cyber Liability

Customers trust you with credit card numbers and your staff trust you with social security numbers. Having this information, if you are breached, must be disclosed to those people. Cyber Liability insurance can cover any expenses you may incur from the data breach and any potential lawsuits.

Property Insurance

Commercial property insurance will protect you for property damaged or destroyed due to a covered loss. Make sure you have the proper coverage for your property.

Liquor Liability Insurance

Liquor liability insurance covers defense costs and damages to persons and property after a customer is served alcohol from your brewery.

Business Auto Insurance

If you handle your own distribution, auto insurance is a definite must.

Bonds

Bonds are good to have and sometimes required. These can come into play, for instance, if a bonded brewery doesn’t pay their taxes, the bond can be used towards them.

These different types of policies are important but are not the only types of policies that are offered or sometimes recommended for breweries. All breweries and locations are different. For example, if you hold tours or events, you may need different polices to safely insure your business and customers. If you cater events, you are looking at a different type of policy as well. For your exact situation, your agent can walk you through which policies will benefit you and your brewery.
